Tales from a Psychiatry Ward

JP Sutherland, an award-winning psychiatrist, tells stories of the extraordinary things he has seen, inspired by the work of Oliver Sacks and Henry Marsh, using each patient’s tale to illustrate and educate about a different mental illness.

A couple remain happily married despite the husband hearing voices every day ordering him to kill his wife; a teenager recovering from an overdose stubbornly refuses to engage with her psychiatrist until the impasse is resolved by the unlikely process of discussing John Donne’s poem No Man Is an Island; and three individuals on a psychiatry ward at the same time all believe that they are Ozzy Osbourne.

Tales From a Psychiatry Ward will contain their stories and many more including narratives about depression, mania, schizophrenia, anxiety, addiction, and personality disorders. Told from the point of view of their psychiatrist, these tales will fascinate the reader even as they educate about the misunderstood world of mental illness and its treatment.
